For more than 30 years, people of all ages have socialised at Thetford’s Snooker Centre in Oddfellows Hall.

Established in 1985, the centre on Earles Street was known for its friendly atmosphere and in addition to its 14 snooker tables, it was a popular venue for parties and band nights.

The hall closed suddenly on Friday and owners Paul and Lynn Mossop have retired.

A sign from the couple at the grade two-listed Victorian building said: “We apologies we were unable to give warning, this was due to the manner of the ale of the Snooker Centre.

“We wish to thank all of you whom we have had the pleasure of knowing and serving for the past 32 years. We will miss you all.

“King regards and best wishes to you all.”

Many residents have shared their memories of the centre and wished Mr and Mrs Mossop well.

Donna Berry said on Facebook: “Many people have many fantastic memories here. I hope the owners enjoy their retirement.”

Wendy Marsh said: “Wow! I spent many a night in that place and always loved the discos. Paul and Lynn were always so welcoming and looked after us girls back in the day! Wishing them all the best!”

Jenny Wood said: “A truly lovely couple. Shall be missed by a lot of people. Always made me and my family welcome.

“My daughter Kelly has worked with them for some time now and they have been a great support for her and her family.

“Enjoy your retirement you both deserve it.”

Carl Harding-Palmer said: “First went in late 1986. Fantastic memories. Paul and Lynn are such a lovely couple and they certainly deserve a rest and enjoy some free time now.”

Claire Gott said: “The best place I will ever say I have worked at! Such great memories that I will cherish for many years to come.

“Paul and Lynn are the kindest people I have ever met.”
