Elderly people will have the chance to exchange their old slippers for a new pair as part of an initiative to help prevent trips, slips and falls.

Forest Heath District Council, which is delivering Golden Age fairs across the district, has bought the fluffy footwear as part of a falls prevention and intervention awareness campaign.

It found sloppy slippers could be the cause of trips, slips and falls which could lead to fractures, broken bones and even hip replacements.

A Golden Age fair, featuring new slippers, will be held at the Harvest Centre on Fengate Drove, Brandon, on October 26 from midday to 4pm.

To book a pair of slippers in your size, contact the council’s health improvement officer, Michelle Jacobs, on 01638 719246 or email michelle.jacobs@forest-heath.gov.uk.
