Held in the beautiful surroundings of Euston Hall, the event was hosted by the Duke and Duchess of Grafton, who own the estate close to Thetford, and the Lord Lieutenant of Suffolk, Countess Clare of Euston.

Guests included local MPs, civic dignitaries, former senior officers, veterans and friends of the regiment.

Commanding officers and members of the three Royal Anglian battalions were also present.

The Band of the Parachute Regiment performed a programme of regimental music and a cocktail party was also held.

Originally, beating retreat, made by beating a drum, was used to order troops to stop fighting and withdraw to camp.

Later it signalled the closing of the camp gates at the end of the day.
