Kirkley and Pakefield went back to the top of the Ridgeons Premier Division table on Saturday after a 2-1 win at Ely City.

New signing Russell Stock didn't take long to earn his first goal for the club when he beat the offside trap and fired home after five minutes.

Then Chris Henderson went on a mazy run, beating three players before curling in a fine shot for number two.

In the last minute Ely gained a consolation through Chris Strecici, the first time Kirkley have conceded a goal this season.

Midweek leaders Mildenhall dropped to sixth after losing 3-2 to visiting Stanway Rovers, who rise one place to third.

Biggest leap up the table was by Walsham-le-Willows, whose 6-0 drubbing of mid-table Hadleigh United saw them shoot from eighth to second.

Their goal difference is superior to most teams also on nine points as they have yet to concede a goal.

Dereham Town bagged their first league win of the season, going nap against visitors Harwich and Parkeston, who scored a consolation.

Magpies' press officer Ren Kendal said: “It's nice to get the first win under the belt. It has been tough for the last two games because we had several injuries. The players who came in did well.

“It will give us a confidence boost going into Tuesday's home game against Walsham-le-Willows and next Saturday's FA Cup tie against local rivals Wroxham,” he added.

The Magpies started the ball rolling against Harwich and Parkeston when Simon Mowbray coolly slotted home.

Despite much pressure, Dereham didn't add another until just before half-time when a cross by Craig Terrington from the left went over the keeper and into the net.

Against the run of play, Harwich got one back when Darrin Bethall chipped the keeper from 20 yards.

Dereham restored control when Danny Beaumont curled a trademark free-kick home and he added another from the penalty spot after Adam Gusterson had been brought down.

Gusterson, who had enjoyed a fine match, made it five to seal a great win for Dereham.

King's Lynn Reserves hosted Haverhill Rovers hoping to build on their first win, but they ended up losing 3-1.

They had begun well enough, with their new signing - Portuguese striker Nelson Moreira - netting his first for the club after good work from Nick Davey (another recent signing) and Reserves stalwart Luke Fell.

But Lynn were unable to convert this early promise into victory and Haverhill levelled just before half-time and added two more to seal victory.

CRC kept up their good form with a 2-0 home victory over Norwich United while Wroxham got their first win of the season when they returned from Newmarket Town with a 2-1 victory.

Felixstowe and Walton United beat visitors Histon Reserves 4-1, Leiston entertained Needham Market and got a 2-1 victory.

Over at Wisbech Town, the hosts beat Woodbridge Town 3-0 and Debenham LC returned back from their trip to Wivenhoe with a comprehensive 5-1 victory.
