BUILDING firm Mansell Construction Services visited Wayland Community High School to give students a taste of working in the construction industry.

The event, which took place over two days, enabled several groups of students aged 13 to 15 from Wayland and Methwold High Schools to gain hands-on experience with Swaffham-based Mansell and Cundy Anglia (part of the Sedden Group) skilled tradesmen in a range of bricklaying, carpentry, painting and decorating activities.

One of the activities involved the students trying their hands at redecorating and wallpapering their drama room with paint supplied by ICI/Dulux Paints.

Headteacher Michael Rose said: “The event has gone extremely well and is part of the partnership we share with Mansell, which has been established over a long time in the west of Norfolk. It has given the students a chance to have a taste at all the construction trades and gain an insight as to the skills required”.

He added: “Next year, we will have a new £2m Vocational Training Centre on site which will offer students a range of qualification within the construction trades. On that note, I would like to thank Mansell for all their hard work and support with the children over the years.”
