Pupils at Iceni Academy, Methwold, hold their first parliament inspired by Elizabeth Truss visit
Inspired by a visit from their local MP pupils at a Norfolk school recently held their first parliament.
Pupils at the Iceni Academy in Methwold held their own Iceni Parliament where elected representatives from each form group in all years along with the student leadership team, took part in the lively discussions.
The idea came following a visit from South West Norfolk MP Elizabeth Truss last year.
Topics discussed included food, the curriculum, achievement and learning and behaviour and safety.
The Iceni Parliament, which was run by the students, has inspired many students to think about politics more generally.
Luke Johnson, the deputy head boy who chaired the meeting, said: “As a student leadership team, part of our job is to make sure every student has their say in how Iceni Academy is run.
“We are very excited to be planning a trip to parliament in London to learn more about democracy in general.”
