Artists from across the Breckland district are set to give art lovers a feast for their eyes as part of a nine-day showcase.

The 2013 Breckland Art Trail will get under way from this Saturday.

Over the nine days, and at more than 20 venues, potters, painters, photographers, sculptors and illustrators will be showing and selling their work in a series of temporary exhibitions.

Organised by Breckland Council, the art trail is designed to help local artists and art groups promote their work to a wider audience and encourage residents to explore the district.

Venues range from the studios of individual artists to village halls and public galleries. Some more unusual venues include a whisky distillery, a primary school showing off its young talent and a sheltered housing scheme where the work of some talented older residents will be on display.

Lynda Turner, Breckland Council executive member for community and environmental services, said: 'It is a testament to the success of our first art trail in 2012 that even more artists will be displaying their work this year.

'There's going to be a huge diversity of work to see and enjoy in both contemporary and traditional styles, using a variety of media. This is a great opportunity to discover new talent and pick up some unique Christmas gifts.'

The trail runs until December 8.

Artists displaying their work include North Tuddenham's Marie-Louise Bacon, Thetford's David Baxter, Scarning's Sarah Caputo and Attleborough's Paula Hickman.

One of the highlights will be a two-day exhibition at Elsing Village Hall.

A group of potters, painters and textile designers from the village have joined forces to create the display which will be held this weekend from 10am to 5pm.

Henry Atkinson, from the Elsing group of artists, said: 'Elsing Village Hall is a really cool venue and we are always seeking to expand the local arts scene here. The village and the area round about also boasts a number of artists – some well established, others 'budding'.

'We hope that through the 2013 Breckland Art Trail the public will beat a path to our door to see – and buy – the work on show and put Elsing firmly on the cultural map.'
