The popular fundraising event is celebrating its 12th year on July 1, with 33 gardens across the town and surrounding parishes involved.

There will be a variety of gardens to enjoy, some natural flowing down to the River Thet, some small but potted to perfection.

This year’s theme is Golden Gardens of Thetford.

Thetford Garden Centre will provide every garden with a donated golden yellow plant for the event on July 1.

Organiser Rachel Woods said more than £60,000 had been raised for charity since the event’s launch.

This year, money will once again be raised for St Nicholas Hospice Care - with £10,000 raised in 2017 for the charity with offers support to those with long-term and life-threatening illnesses.

“We have got nine new gardens this year, said Mrs Woods. “Norwich Road Residents Association are having a gazebo o where they have done some planting. They are having some games and showing people what they have done to beautify the place.

“It is nice to have community groups involved and not just individual gardeners who are mad about gardening.

“When it was started it was about the community and we do fundraise but it is good to have people out and about on the streets of Thetford.”

For the first time, the Grade-II listed Kilverstone Hall is joining the open gardens and will welcome visitors.

The Mayor of Thetford Roy Brame will start the day with a giant game of heads and tails at King’s House Gardens from 10.30am.

People can play for £1, with all money raised going towards the hospice.

The winner will receive £350 worth of goods courtesy of Cobra Domestic Appliances.

Visitors will be able to make their way round the gardens between 11am and 5pm

Programmes available from Thetford Garden Centre and the Leaping Hare tourist information for £5.
