Dan Roper, Councillor for Hevingham and Spixworth, is group leader having previously served as council deputy leader from 2015-2016.

Steffan Aquarone, who took the Liberal Democrats from fourth to first place with a majority of 420 in Melton Constable division, is deputy leader.

Dr Marie Strong, who served as group leader for the past four years, becomes the new group chairperson.

Mr Roper said: “For many years the Liberal Democrats have punched well and truly above their weight on the Council and this has largely been down to the excellent leadership of Marie Strong. I am enormously proud to take on the role as leader and will ensure the Liberal Democrats are the real opposition to Conservatives in Norfolk.”

New deputy leader Mr Aquarone said: “I’ve had tremendous fun fighting my campaign over the past few months, especially with high profile issues like mobile phone signal and bus services. As someone who has come to this from outside politics, I’ve quickly realised why so many people find public service fulfilling – and learned that you can win by doing a good thing in a good way.”
