Calls for entries to new awards have been repeated as the deadline for the Thetford Business Awards approaches.

The awards were launched by Gez Chetal, owner of the Thomas Paine Hotel on Whitehart Street, as a way of recognising and rewarding businesses of all shapes and sizes in the town.

Mr Chetal, who is the executive director of Trust-House Leisure which runs the Thomas Paine Hotel, invited the mayor of Thetford and business owner Roy Brame to assist with the awards.

The categories are: Trainee Apprentice, nomination from companies; Mayors Award, selected by Mr and Mrs Brame; Small Business of the Year (under five employees), nominations from the public and employees; Innovation, nominations from companies and employees; Employer of the Year, nominations from companies and employees; Helping Business in the Community, nominations from the public; Leisure, nominations from the public, Tourism, nominations from the public; Hospitality, nominations from the public, and Retail, nominations by the public.

Mr Chetal said: “We have had some fantastic nominations so far but this is for everyone in the town so get your nominations in as soon as possible.

“This is not just for the big guys, this is for the little guys. We want to recognise and reward all of the town’s varied businesses and those who run them.”

He added: “If you know a business that has gone above and beyond the call of duty, or who you or family or friends work for and want to recognise, now is the opportunity to do just that.

“Tickets for the awards ceremony are going to be on sale very soon through Thetford Town Council’s box office. Tickets will cost £37.50 per person or £350 for a table of ten.”

The closing date for nominations is January 20, 2019, which can be submitted by clicking on the Your Thetford and Brandon tab at the top of this site, and clicking on Thetford Business Awards and filling out the form.

A judging panel will decide on the finalists for the awards ceremony, which will be held at the town’s Carnegie Room on Friday, April 19 and hosted by magician Paul Martin who has performed for the likes of Prince Charles, Prince William, and the Queen.

The Thetford and Brandon Times and various businesses from across the Thetford area are sponsoring the event.
