Momentum is building ahead of the bicentenary of the death of Thetford's most famous son, according to organisers behind next year's Thomas Paine festival.
More than 40 people attended a meeting at the Carnegie Room this week to find out more about the 'Tom Paine 200' events.
Co-ordinator John Weeks said he was “encouraged” by the enthusiasm for the project, which will include re-enactments, lectures, parades and a community play.
The former Thetford Grammar School headmaster said there was a lot of support from residents interested in getting involved in the Citizen of the World play, which will tell the life story of the famous author and revolutionist. It is being written by East Anglia dramatist Mike Levy and is set to be performed in October next year.
Mr Weeks added that a further meeting would take place in the New Year, with auditions in April. He added that organisers were also keen to hear from people interested in making costumes for the 18th century re-enactment activities planned for the weekend of June 6 and 7.
