PARENTS who thought they had left their school days behind them returned to the classroom to experience modern-day teaching.

Methwold High School opened its doors not only to 750 pupils on Thursday but to more than 20 year 7 parents too.

The adults were invited to spend a day in the life of a student in a bid to engage them in their children's learning.

The Bring your Parent to School Day was inspired by the success of a parent study day by the school's science department last year.

Bringing parents into school is designed to engage them with the curriculum so they feel better informed to offer the youngsters additional support at home.

Transition manager at Methwold High, Sarah Turner, said: “It is evident that one of the keys to student achievement is in engaging parents with their child's learning.

“This means parents are better informed and better equipped to help support their children through their studies, which motivates students themselves.”

Parents were given a timetable for the morning and had the opportunity to participate in four different lessons.

Miss Turner said this was the second time the school had run such a day.

“Given its success last year, parents were keen for a second opportunity to experience student life,” she said.

“I'm delighted with the large numbers of parents who have actively wanted to take part.”
