The news that £1m is to be invested in mental healthcare in Norfolk and Suffolk has been welcomed by the culture secretary and MP for West Suffolk Matt Hancock.
The funding boost will help provide a purpose built ‘Crisis Cafe’ in Norwich which will support people in escalating mental health crises. The cafe will give patients an alternative to A&E and provide year round support to people including care, advice and information.
It will also act as an urgent response hub, helping to ease pressure on the Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital A&E, mental health inpatient beds and avoid people being detained in police investigation centres as a place of safety.
Mr Hancock said: “I’m pleased that the issue of mental health is very much on the agenda, and being able to access the help that people need with their mental health issues is of the utmost importance.”
