A man has died after being trapped beneath a car.

Police were called at 11.20am today to Mingay Road, off London Road, following reports a was trapped under a stationary car.

A spokesman said officers attended, along with fire and ambulance crews. The man was pronounced dead at the scene.

She added the incident was being treated as a sudden death and a file would be prepared for the coroner.

Residents said they heard a lot of sirens and the air ambulance flying around.

Michelle Wilson, who lives close to Mingay Road, said: “I saw the police cars flying past when I was walking to Wilkos. I thought ‘oh my god there has been an accident somewhere’.

“I probably knew who it was. I have lived here for 46 years and I have know people and their friends. You talk to friends and their friends to say hello. You speak to people walking their dogs.

“It is quite a close community here.”

She added: “It is very sad. Something like that, you don’t expect it, do you.

“My heart goes out to the family. It is going to be tough for them.”

An East of England ambulance spokesman said: “We were called at 11.17am today (21st June) to reports that a man was trapped under a car on Mingay Road in Thetford.

“Two ambulance crews, an ambulance officer, a rapid response vehicle, our hazardous area response team (HART) and the air ambulance from East Anglian Air Ambulance (EAAA) were sent to help.

“Sadly despite their best efforts, the patient died at the scene. Our thoughts go out to his family and friends.”
