The daughter of a former Thetford head teacher who ran the London Marathon following a cancer diagnosis is running in it herself in her memory.
Sasha Talbot is running the marathon in aid of Cancer Research UK and has so far raised more than £1,250.
The mum-of-two said: “When Mum was diagnosed with Cancer in March 2017, she was determined to continue with her love of running.
“She completed the Great North run in September 2017, the Birmingham marathon in October 2017 and the London Marathon in April 2018.
“I have always wanted to complete the London Marathon, but have never felt that I have sufficient time to train for it. However, after Mum ran it last year, I entered the ballot and I was successful in securing a place.”
Des Talbot died of cancer aged 68 on Thursday, November 28. She was headmistress at Queensway School for more than a decade from 1992, ran the parkrun more than 170 times and volunteered at the weekly event more than 50 times since she started running in 2013.
On Saturday, March 23, the Thetford Park run are organising a cake sale to raise money for Cancer Research, which Sasha Talbot will be attending.

Are you running the London Marathon this year? Have you got a story worth telling?
Then we want to hear from you.
Just some of the many runners we covered last year included Stacey Harper, who aimed for a world record by running dressed as Elvis to raise money for her cousin’s seven-year-old son, and paralysed singer Simon Kindleysides, who walked it in a exoskeleton suit.
Lucy Ring, from Old Catton, took part in memory of her late father Mark, a keen runner who suffered a cardiac arrest after taking part in a race, and visually impaired triathlete Iain Dawson raised money for the national disability charity Sense.
