THE majority of shopworkers made redundant by the closure of a Thetford supermarket have secured jobs at a rival food chain, it has emerged.

Thirty-five employees at the Somerfield store in Minstergate lost their jobs after it closed its doors for the last time on Friday following a review of its profitability and performance.

Many of the redundant staff are set to relocate to the Sainsbury's supermarket on the

Forest Retail Park in Thetford as part of its expansion.

The vacant 20,000sqft shop space in Minstergate, which reopened two years ago following a major blaze, is set to become a Wilkinson store later this year.
