A large fire took place last night on a disused airfield by the Norfolk and Suffolk border.

More than 20 fire fighters from both counties were called to the five by five metre blaze at Knettishall Airfield on Norwich Lane just after 11pm.

Crews from East Harling, Thetford, Bury St Edmunds and Ixworth were at the scene for more than an hour.

The fire, which burnt a pile of straw, timber and cardboard, was considered in a safe enough location to allow it to burn out at the former Second World War airfield.
