Cleaning products firm Jeyes is to bring new manufacturing work to its Thetford headquarters for the first time in five years - creating 50 jobs.

The closure of the company's facility in Consett in County Durham, will see production of the 'Easy' budget cleaning range transferred to Thetford.

Jeyes said the job vacancies, mainly for manufacturing workers, would be filled with a mix of permanent and agency staff in the next three months.

The firm added the Easy range to its portfolio of household cleaning products - which includes Jeyes Fluid, Parozone and Bloo -when it acquired Powder & Liquid Products (PLP) and its Consett facility for an undisclosed sum last June.

Jeyes said the Easy range - which includes washing up liquid, bleach, all-purpose cleaners and laundry cleaning products - had helped increase the company's revenue by 17pc year on year to £190m.

The Times reported last year how PLP's long standing links with the likes of Aldi and Iceland had delivered "strong sales" for Jeyes since the acquisition.

PLP recorded annual sales of £15m in the year ending March 2008. Jeyes said its new arm would sales for the year ending this March would top £20m.

Roger Burdett, chairman of Jeyes, said: "Our acquisition of PLP has been successful and sales volumes are very strong. This reflects the consumer's search for great value products that make housekeeping more affordable in tough times."

"Ongoing, margins are under pressure as retailers demand lower cost prices and consumers look for promotional offers.

"So Jeyes will continue to work with suppliers and its manufacturing sites to drive down costs."

Jeyes has a worldwide workforce of some 1,600 people, with about 1,100 of them based in the UK and 250 in Thetford.
