IPSWICH Town footballer Jaime Peters and Owen Garvan have been helping students at Thetford's Rosemary Musker High School to reach their mathematics goal.

The players are at the school to support the students taking part in Ipswich Town Community Trust's Double Club programme.

The Double Club provides students with extra support with their literacy and numeracy work, but with the added bonus of getting extra opportunities to take part in some sporting activities too.

Ipswich Town Community Trust coach Darren Ablett delivers the Double Club programme at a number of schools across Suffolk and the recent extension of the programme into Thetford has seen both high schools in the town take up the opportunity to benefit from the scheme, which is part funded through the Department of Children, Schools and Families and part funded through the Thetford Excellence Partnership's Full Service Extended Schools Programme.

The 12-week programme sees 15 students supported once per week for three hours, with all literacy and numeracy activities themed through the topic of football.

On their arrival, Town midfielder Jaime Peters was straight to work supporting the students with the maths task they were working on and helping them to make their calculations correctly.

Another prominent Ipswich Town midfielder, Owen Garvan, also offered his advice and guidance, before both players posed for a team photo and signed some memorabilia for the students.

For further information on the Double Club programme that can support schools with literacy and numeracy activities across school years 5 through to 9, contact the Double Club co-ordinator Darren Ablett on 01473 400545.
