PEOPLE are being asked to comment on a possible reduction in opening hours at Brandon Police Station.

A review by Suffolk Police Authority means changes will involve some reductions and increases of hours across the county.

The opening hours are currently being raised at parish and town council meetings and will be discussed at all SNT Tasking Meetings, which are open to the public.

Police stations are grouped into three public access tiers, depending on the degree of demand they face.

Brandon falls into tier three which means it will open for two hours a day, three days a week. People are asked to comment on which days and hours would be most appropriate.

Assistant Chief Constable Gary Kitching said: “This business case was recommended to the Police Authority following extensive consultation with the public and staff to determine how we can provide the best public access points tailored to meet local needs.

“The current structure of the opening hours of public enquiry desks has lacked any consistency, resulting in inefficient use of our resources.

“Research has shown a significant disparity in demand and staffing between sites.

“It is important to emphasise that these changes affect the public enquiry desk facility at police stations. The stations themselves will remain fully operational.”
