Thetford community nurse Jason Rush has begun a six-week holiday with a difference by starting a gruelling cycle ride along the whole of the British coastline.

Thetford community nurse Jason Rush has begun a six-week holiday with a difference by starting a gruelling cycle ride along the whole of the British coastline.

The 32-year-old embarked on the 4,500 mile journey from Southwold on Saturday in a bid to raise some cash for East Anglia's Children's Hospices (EACH).

While hundreds of cyclists took to Thetford Forest on Sunday for the charity's Race for Life event, Mr Rush completed the first leg of his quest to cover the English, Welsh, and Scottish coasts, including the Isle of Wight.

The fitness fanatic, who has run three marathons in the last year and cycled the whole 190 miles of the East Anglian coast in a day, will be carrying out the solo challenge with just one change of clothes and a tent on his back.

Mr Rush, who lives at Dickleburgh, and works from the Thetford Community Healthy Living Centre, hopes to cycle 130 miles a day. He said he wanted to support the children's hospice because it received limited government funding.

“I have always wanted to do this and would regret it if I didn't try. Everyone does Land's End to John O'Groats and I wanted to do something a bit different,” he said. Sponsor forms are available at the healthy living centre at Thetford or the Grove Lane and School Lane surgeries or via www.justgiving.com/jasonrush
