GRATEFUL Carol Touchin has raised more than £1300 for a support group for people diagnosed with breast cancer.

The Thetford-based bank business manager decided to support Keeping Abreast, run by plastic surgeon Elaine Sassoon, after being diagnosed with breast cancer two years ago. Ms Sassoon performed Carol's mastectomy and reconstruction and is committed to raising awareness among GPs and patients diagnosed with breast cancer of ALL the choices available concerning reconstruction.

Carol told the Times the surgeon's help had been a great boost.

“After the initial devastating diagnosis, I personally found the experience of waking up post op to such a fantastic outcome - life changing. From dreading the outcome and my self esteem/confidence levels plummeting - I was back up to 'I can beat this' and a totally positive mindset.”

Carol organised a Celebration of Life event at Banham Barrel which raised £1310 for Keeping Abreast which offers practical and hands on support to people diagnosed with breast cancer - not just medical advice but support on the personal and individual effect it has on each individual and their family.

Meetings are usually held at the Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital. For more information see website www.keepingabreast.org.uk
