All of Norfolk's mayors and chairmen will set out together on a special tour of the county Wednesday, July 18 to celebrate its rich and unique cultural heritage ahead of Norfolk Day.
Communities are invited to support the Norfolk Grand Tour by welcoming the arrival of the civic party, who will be stopping off for photos at 10 special places that showcase just some of what the county has to offer for residents and visitors alike.
Starting and ending at Great Yarmouth, the trip will cover all seven districts in one day, with photos posted throughout the day on organiser Great Yarmouth Borough Council's Facebook and Twitter channels, using the hashtags #NorfolkDay and #NorfolkGrandTour
In addition to sharing and re-tweeting the photos, all residents, groups and schools are invited to get involved, show pride in their area and support Norfolk Day by joining a welcoming committee at each location, headed by a deputy lord lieutenant.
Wearing their chains of office, the civic group will first take a thrilling ride on the iconic Joyland Snails at Great Yarmouth seafront, which are 69 years old this year, before setting off to criss-cross the county in a chauffeur-driven eight-seater minibus, kindly sponsored by Silverline Limousines.
They will have their photo taken at Britannia Terrace, Norwich, with a panorama of Fine City in the background, before posing up outside of The Forum. The next leg of the journey will take them to the Bressingham Steam Museum, in South Norfolk, and then for a snap with the Dad's Army monument, in Thetford, Breckland.
Heading north, the chain gang will visit the Queen's residence at Sandringham, in King's Lynn and West Norfolk.
After a whistle-stop lunch at King's Lynn Town Hall, they will be on the road again for visits to Cromer Pier, in North Norfolk, and Ranworth Broad, in Broadland, before ending at the historic monument to Lord Nelson, in Great Yarmouth, where they will enjoy a fish and chip supper on the seafront. Mayor of Great Yarmouth Mary Coleman said: 'An important role of mayors and chairmen is to celebrate their local areas and boost community pride, which is also what Norfolk Day is about, so the idea of a civic Norfolk Grand Tour covering all districts is ideal for Norfolk Day.
'Norfolk is a county of such diverse, unique and fabulous places, and we hope that lots of Norfolk's special people will come out to meet us too, and also tweet and share our posts, to help promote Norfolk's rich cultural heritage.'
The group will arrive at Yarmouth seafront at 8.30am and due to be there until 9am.
