FRIDAY is the new night to be seen in Thetford thanks to a new series of activities which have been launched.

Wellspring opened last Friday at the Church on the Way on the Admirals Way Estate. Each week it will cater for various groups and clubs of all ages and interests.

Activities include a fitness and wellbeing club between 6.30pm and 9.30pm, social clubs from 8pm until 10pm, an art and craft group from 7pm until 9pm, an internet and bookshop from 6pm to 10pm, knitting from 7pm until 9pm and music experimentation from 1pm until 10pm.

There will also be English conversation groups for migrant workers and their families from 7.45pm to 8.45pm.

The new online community radio station, Radio Thetford will also broadcast special shows from Wellspring live on Friday nights as well as at other times. Courses on radio presenting are available to budding DJ's and presenters.

At the heart of the Wellspring activities is the Time for Tea Caf which is open from 10am until 2pm every Friday for morning coffees and light lunches and then again in the evening from 6 until 10pm for snacks and evening meals. Everyone is welcome, although children under 13 must be accompanied by an adult at all times.

Reverend Paul Hodgson said: “After months of preparation and many people working very hard to get things ready, it was encouraging that so many people turned up to participate in the different activities on offer. I think that everyone who came thoroughly enjoyed themselves.

“There's plenty of space in each group for others to come along and join in too.”

In future organisers hope to host special events and may expand to different days of the week.
