A firefighter has raised hundreds of pounds after completing a gruelling fitness test 13 times in 12 hours - all in heavy kit.

Joshua Finbow, 28, is a firefighter for Suffolk Fire and Rescue Service in Ixworth and is raising money for the Fire Fighters Charity.

Mr Finbow has served in the Royal Navy as a marine engineer on nuclear submarines where the notorious beep test was common practice.

The test involves running 20 metres back and forth across a marked track keeping in time with the beeps.

He said: “I was running on the hour every hour and most of the fitness tests lasted about eight minutes.

“Towards the end my legs were in so much pain because I was running in firefighter boots which aren’t designed to be run in.

“The last four or five fitness tests was just a mental battle. I was only meant to do 12 but I was determined to do 13 in the end, just to show that I could do it.

“When I got into the shower awfterwards I felt incredible. I just thought ‘thank God that is over.’”
