Fire crews rushed to the scene of a blaze started deliberately in Thetford Forest.

Three teams from Thetford fire station were called to the scene on Durham Way at 12.13pm on Tuesday, April 16.

They arrived on the scene in just 10 minutes and used back pack sprayers and a misting unit to put the fire out before it spread to more of the forest.

Crews informed police of the incident. A police spokesman said: “We were called by the fire service at about 12.42pm to report that a fire had been started deliberately in Thetford.

“Officers did not attend but it has been reported and further enquiries will be made.”

The crews left the scene at 12.53pm.

Thetford Forest covers an area of 47,000 acres across the Norfolk and Suffolk border. Last year crews across the south of the county battled numerous fires that broke out during the heat wave throughout the summer.
