Bands, classic cars and even a kickboxing display were on hand to keep the crowds entertained at a family fun day to raise money for Help for Heroes, the charity for injured service personnel.

The Ram Hotel in Brandon welcomed the band Straight from the Horse's Mouth, 10-year-old singing sensation Arianna Morgan, the Blues Brothers Tribute Band and Scott Clarke for the all day event yesterday (Sunday).

Bomb disposal personnel with the USAF at RAF Lakenheath were also on hand, along with a Green Goddess fire engine.

There was also a car boot sale and stock cars on show and children's entertainments including an inflatable slide, bouncy castle and tea cup merry-go-round, while traditional fairground candy floss was also on sale.

Trevor Turner, the fun day organiser, said the poor weather over the weekend had affected turnout, but he hoped to hold a similar event next year.

He said he decided to organise the fundraiser to commemorate the 30th anniversary of the Falklands War, where his friend Alistair Leighton served on board the warship HMS Ardent and was among the 22 sailors lost when the vessel was sunk by Argentine war planes.

Mr Turner added his father George also served in the armed forces, so the charity was of particular importance to him.

He said: 'I think the weather's put a lof of people off, but hopefully once the music gets going we will get a lot more people coming in.'
