A STATE of the art eco-friendly house could be built in the heart of Thetford if planning permission is granted.

The Super-Eco Timber Framed Dwelling House would be built at The Planes on Old Bury Road, on the southern end of the land, and would be designed to the latest green specifications.

The home would be air tight in a bid to be as energy efficient and low in carbon emissions as possible, and would be timber framed and built on stilts to avoid tree roots.

Sustainable cedar timber cladding would be used on the exterior, and underfloor heating and hot water would be supplied by a geo-thermal heat pump while boards produced from recycled paper and gypsum would be used for the floor, walls and ceilings.

Large glass windows would be used in the lounge to help with solar power and light.

Agent Anglia Design LLP, on behalf of applicant Mr Pettit, who owns The Planes, said in its design statement: “We feel the submitted planning application provides an attractive and eco-friendly building which will be well hidden within its wooden setting.

“The location of the new dwelling has been specifically chosen so as not to detract from the interest or grandeur of the existing house.

“Hopefully Breckland Council will support our proposal which will help create an interesting and environmentally friendly house within the heat of Thetford town centre.

“We feel the proposals shown would be an attractive development which would enhance the character of the town.”

Access would be maintained along Old Bury Road and on site parking would be provided.

A decision by Breckland Council's planning committee is due by February 15 .
