Visitors to Thetford police station are being warned to expect some disruption following the start of a

three-month building project.

The Norwich Road building, which dates back to the 1960s, is being extended to offer improved facilities to accommodate the growing Safer Neighbourhood Team.

The project will give the station a new look and create an area to house lockers for new and existing staff and will also free

up space within the building.

Norfolk Police says the public inquiry office will remain open, but there will be no car parking spaces for members of the public during the work. Measures will also be taken to avoid disruption to parents during drop-off and pick-up times at the neighbouring Norwich Road Community Primary School.

Insp Paul Wheatley said: “These are long-needed improvements which will greatly help to facilitate our expanding community policing operation in the Thetford area.

“Norfolk Police is moving into a new era of modernisation and the updating of police buildings is an important part of

this. These new facilities will help us to offer an even better policing service for local people.”
