A scheme to help regenerate a Thetford estate by giving two council-owned car parking areas to a housing association was agreed yesterday.

Breckland Council's cabinet agreed to hand over two garage forecourt areas on the Barnham Cross Estate to Peddars Way Housing Association for new development.

The two sites are on Fir Road and Bracken Road.

Peddars Way has already been granted planning permission to demolish the garage blocks at Fir Road for five new affordable homes and a developer has submitted proposals on behalf of the housing association to create two homes and parking on the Bracken Road site.

It is hoped the transfer of the site will enhance the Barnham Cross Estate and that it will be part of a larger regeneration of the area which will see more parcels of land handed over.
