A dead pony that was discovered in a Norfolk river may still be in the water four days after it was found.

Emergency services were called to assist police just after 10.40am on Saturday, April 27 but were stood down before arrival.

It was believed at the time that the animal had been removed from the Little Ouse River near to Brandon Road, Thetford.

But residents have taken to social media to say that the horse has been left in the river.

One said that she had run the Breckland half marathon the following day and saw police tape with the horse still in the river.

Another commented: “I was horrified to witness this.”

Concerns have been raised that children may become ill if the remains stay there.

A worried resident said: “Maybe nature will run its course and it will end up at Santon Downham for all the kids to paddle in.”

Norfolk Fire Service, Norfolk Police, Breckland Council, Environment Agency and the RSPCA were approached for comment.
