A MP praised a Norfolk village's community spirit as he opened a new play area and recreation facility.
The residents of Croxton spent 18 months campaigning and fundraising to replace the minimal and dilapidated equipment at the village hall.
About 100 children, parents and grandparents descended on the community building on Easter Sunday as South West Norfolk MP Christopher Fraser cut the ribbon to open the new play area.
Croxton Parish Council and the village hall committee raised more than £30,000 for the play and picnic facilities, which included a new slide, swings, basketball practice area, springy see-saw, swing logs and benches.
Mr Fraser said he was “delighted” to officially open the new area that was more like a ski slope on Sunday, which was followed by an Easter egg hunt.
Grants of £10,000 were obtained from Awards for All, £5,000 from Breckland Council, £1,500 from Norfolk Rural Projects Fund, £500 from Norfolk Playing Fields Association and £11,500 was provided from the Landfill Communities Fund of Waste Recycling Group Ltd, with the balance made up from parish and village hall committee funds.
