Hundreds of pounds has been donated to a church following the 100th birthday of a well-loved villager.

Alice Syzling (pictured) celebrated the milestone earlier this year with a party for her family and friends in Croxton, near Thetford.

Now, 806 has been received by the village church for roof and tower repairs after Mrs Syzling asked for donations to the cause, instead of presents. Canon Bob Baker, rector of Thetford team ministry, said “ Alice has been a member of Croxton Church for 100 years and this gift to the church is yet another sign of her generous and faithful commitment throughout that time.”

Mrs Syzling, who was born in Croxton on February 17, 1912, was baptised, confirmed and married her late husband, Harry Syzling, in the church.
