POLICE are clamping down on bored teenagers drinking illegally and causing a nuisance in Thetford during their school holidays.
Most of the drinking happens on Saturday nights in the town's Designated Public Places - areas where it has been ruled illegal to consume alcohol.
Officers have seized drink and alerted parents to offender's behaviour, but are keen to deter the practice in future.
“We don't want to stop young people letting their hair down during the summer holidays," said Sgt Ed Brown.
"However, under-age drinking is illegal and the fact is that the excessive consumption of alcohol by youngsters leads to anti-social behaviour that directly affects the quality of life for people living in the town."
“We get told that there is very little to do in Thetford for young people but there are plenty of activities laid on over the summer and I would encourage youngsters to get involved.”

To combat the problem, officers will conduct high-visibility patrols and work with licensees to challenge children and teenagers who try to buy alcohol.
