A convicted rapist is facing a prison sentence after being convicted of raping and assaulting another woman.

Rocky Barnes, 44, of Canterbury Way, Thetford, denied assault causing actual bodily harm, assault by penetration, common assault and rape, at Ipswich Crown Court.

He was unanimously convicted by a jury of assault causing actual bodily harm and common assault and guilty of rape and assault by penetration by 11-1 majority verdicts.

Sentence was adjourned for a pre-sentence report.

The court heard that Barnes went to the woman’s home and hit her during an argument before grabbing her throat and squeezing it so hard that she lost consciousness.

On another occasion Barnes had pushed her on to a table and raped her.

During the trial the victim she had been aware Barnes had served a prison sentence for rape and violence.

She said he had told her about the circumstances of the convictions but she didn’t know he had been jailed for seven years.

Barnes chose not to give evidence during his trial.
