The festive period is a time to spend with family and friends.

But for those who are on their own it can be a lonely time of year.

To make sure people in Thetford did not spend Christmas Day alone Thetford’s Open Christmas was held at the Methodist church.

Tea and coffee were served to the 50 guests before more than a dozen volunteers cooked a full Christmas lunch and a pudding.

There was then live entertainment including a festive singalong.

A minibus enabled people to be picked-up from home to be taken to the event and then back again.

Sharon Nash, who helped to arrange the event, said: “Many thanks to all who so generously donated food, money, transport, and of course, their time.

A free Christmas Day lunch and buffet, organised by Sharon Thompson, was also held at the Pine Close Community Centre.
