Van and 4x4 drivers are being urged to remain vigilant after a spate of catalytic converter thefts in Breckland.

The parts were stolen from four vehicles overnight between Wednesday (June 20) and the following day in Norwich Road, Swaffham, Wavell Road and Dunlop Road, Dereham, and Brookside in nearby North Elmham, among other areas.

Inspector Terry Lordan said targeted patrols will be carried out and they would like to here from anyone who has seen or heard anything suspicious in these areas.

He added: 'Unfortunately, with the cost of scrap metal, this sort of crime can be quite common in rural areas. We are urging drivers to take extra precautions whenever possible to try and reduce their chances of falling victim to catalytic converter theft.'

Safety advice includes parking parallel to another vehicle or in a garage with an alarm as well as security marking catalytic converters with heat resistant paint.
