BUSINESSES in Breckland are set to benefit from a 3m project aimed at making them more energy efficient.

Breckland Council has agreed to recruit two new jobs with salaries between 19,000 and 40,000 to run the Rev-Active project to help businesses in part of Breckland more energy efficient.

Part of the project will see an aerial thermal imaging survey of businesses in the area to see how much energy they emit.

The two new posts will be a project manager and a support post both on a fixed term of 42 months.

The project is aimed at reducing firm's carbon footprints in the Rural Enterprise Valley - an area along the A11 between Thetford and Norwich.

Funding will mostly come from the Regional Development Fund, Shaping Norfolk's Future and Norfolk County Council.

Breckland, whose general purposes committee agreed to the two new posts on Wednesday, will pay eight per cent of the costs.

Lindy Warmer, senior economic development officer at Breckland, said: “We have full support of businesses in the area.

“Some 40 are on board and want to take part. The thermal imaging project sees an aerial survey showing head and energy loss they are experiencing.

“They will also have assessments on their premises to look at production and energy consumption.”

The Rev-Active project is part if the Engineering Smart Growth programme, a major growth programme planned over 10 to 12 years looking at carbon reduction, investment, housing and utilities along the A11 corridor.
