THE work of the Brandon Safer Neighbourhood Team together with a nearby gospel church has been shortlisted for a prestigious award.

The pair joined forces after the SNT became aware of a number of homeless people in the area.

Together with the Brandon Gospel Church, Lutheran Church, Church of Christ and the Baptist Church several projects were implemented.

These included a weekly soup kitchen, fresh clothes and bedding, English lessons to help them better integrate into the community, and shelter during the winter.

They are both now up for the new Suffolk Community Partnership of the Year Award, part of the annual High Sheriff Awards, established by the Safer Suffolk Foundation.

Sgt Christian Chisnall of the Brandon SNT said: “The SNT is indebted to the huge effort, resources and money that the church and the volunteers have put in to positively change the lives of these individuals, this is a good example of people working together in partnership to change our community for the better.”

The awards recognise the life-changing work individuals and organisations carry out across the county and the winners will be announced at an awards ceremony to be held at Wattisham Air field today.
