'OLD stagers' in Brandon are being given a new lease of life and a chance to shine when they perform in their Bupa Wants Talent show today.

The over 65s talent show has been organised by Bupa's Brandon Park Residential and Nursing Home as part of plans to mark UK Older People's Day (on Thursday), a national day of events that celebrates later life and the contribution that older people make to society.

Lisa Elmy, care home manager, said: “It's not often that older people get the opportunity to be centre stage, but we're here to prove that it's never too late when it comes to talent. We've also got an Abba tribute performance to get us into the swing of it.”

Care homes throughout the UK are hosting events this week, where more than 500 older people will be showcasing their skills and talents, with winners of each local show being presented with a special Bupa Wants Talent award.

Helping promote the events is veteran comedian Bernie Clifton, a star of the stage and TV who has been entertaining audiences for over 50 years.

He said: “You'd be amazed at the wealth of genuinely talented people who still have so much to offer. This is a great way to celebrate the talents of older people, particularly those who have not only been there and done that, but are probably still wearing the T-shirt.”

Brandon Park's talent show takes place today from 2pm - 4pm. Members of the community are invited to attend and can so do by calling 01842 812400.
