Forest Academy pupils celebrate their SATs results.

Staff and year-six children at Brandon’s Forest Academy are celebrating having achieved excellent SAT reading results.

Nearly all children achieved level four or better in the tests, with 58.5pc achieving level five.

The school said that high standards in reading had always been a priority, with the school launching its own ‘Race to Read’ challenge four years ago.

Children are encouraged to read every day and they receive stickers to reward this good habit. This year the school also invested in a new library with hundreds of new books.

Head of school April Grimes said: “By encouraging children to read for pleasure, we have reaped the rewards in their reading attainment.

“This has also had a positive impact on the quality of children’s writing, where 97pc achieved level-four and 58.5pc achieved level five.”

Children also excelled in writing and maths, with some even achieving level-six – the equivalent of a C at GCSE.
