A football lover who has visited hundreds of non-league football grounds stopped off to add Thetford Rovers to his impressive tally this weekend.

The dedication of anyone willing to travel the length and breadth of the country to watch a match at little-known football venues is to be admired but particularly so in the case of ground hopper John Stancombe as he is completely blind.

The South Londoner became blind in 2006 but that has not stopped him from pursuing his pastime. His visit to Euston Park, home of Thetford Rovers, for a match against Harleston Town FC was the 1,680th ground he has been to.

A club spokesman said: β€œHe travels around the country on his own by train and visits non league grounds to have a club committee member commentate on the game for him. He is an amazing man and puts into perspective some of our day to day complaining and moaning. Next Saturday he is in Wales watching a game.”
