Police warned elderly and vulnerable people to be wary of possible rogue traders after reports of suspicious behaviour in Dereham and Watton.

Calls were received from several concerned householders who had been visited by two men offering to sell cleaning products at around 6pm on Friday. The men - who claimed to be connected with a youth offenders' scheme - were both in their early 20s, wore hooded tops and spoke with northern accents.

A spokesman for Norfolk police said although no burglaries had taken place, the reports served as a reminder to check the identity of any unexpected callers.

He said: “Not everyone knocking on your door is a thief, but people need to be aware that this is sometimes the method used to gain entry before a distraction burglary.”
