Fire crews will remain at the scene of a barn fire in a Norfolk village for “most of the night”.

A spokesperson from Norfolk Fire and Rescue service said appliances are still dealing with an agricultural fire on Blackdyke Road in Hockwold cum Wilton after the alarm was raised at around 8.55am.

They added crews, including relief crews, will remain on the scene throughout the night although the fire was “under control.”

Pumps from Methwold, Thetford, Downham Market, Massingham and Reepham had been using hose reel jets and main jets to put out the fire.

The spokesperson added that animals had been removed from an adjacent building.

Kantharuban Yodaraja, shop owner at Hockwold Stores on Main Street, said he saw around four fire engines going “quite fast” past his shop at around 8am.

A worker at Country Retreat Boarding Cattery said he had heard haybales are on fire at Blackdyke Farm and a barn had been “completely burnt out.”

Brandon Fire Station tweeted: “Crews were mobilised to a barn fire, upon arrival crews found the barn was well alight and are using main jets and ground monitors to extinguish the fire while being supplemented by the USAF Water Bowser.”

The post added that a few crews are still on scene and the incident has been “scaled down.”
