The family of a husband and wife in their 70s killed in a crash on the A1075 at Great Hockham have paid tribute to a couple who will be “missed by all that knew them”.
Andrew and Jean Crawford died on Wednesday, August 28, after a collision involving their white Kia Rio and a blue Peugeot 206 on the A1075, at Hockham.
The driver of the Peugeot, a woman in her 30s, was taken to Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital with serious internal injuries.
Norfolk Police have released a statement from their heartbroken family which said: "Tragically taken on Wednesday, August 28, in the case of a road traffic accident on the A1075 at Great Hockham, Andrew and Jean Crawford, parents, grandparents and great grandparents. Will be sadly missed by all that knew them."
Meanwhile calls have been made to make the 22-mile road safer after the couple became the latest to lose their lives in a crash.
Wretham Parish Council chairman Harold Smith has called for more to be done to save lives on the road after the two most recent deaths brought the number of fatalities on the stretch between Dereham and Thetford up to five in five years.
Mr Smith said: "The main issue is people speeding, although that may not be the case with this collision.
"As a parish council we have contacted highways but once again it seems someone has to die before something happens.
"There is a 50mph speed limit at Great Hockham which increases to 60mph south of Wretham. There is a case to extend the 50mph speed limit along the road, but even so, people don't stick to the speed limit."
Mr Smith spoke out in April this year when a motorcyclist was killed on April 20 after crashing into a chevron sign on the same road.
The latest road deaths mean there has now been 21 fatalities on Norfolk's roads so far this year.
A Norfolk County Council spokesman said: "A safety review of A1075 took place in 2014 which included looking at the standard of signing and road markings. Changes were subsequently made where needed along with some reductions in speed limits.
"We will look closely at the outcome of the investigation when it's available but it would be inappropriate at this stage to comment on this tragic incident."
