Police and other agencies such as Breckland Council, Peddars Way Housing and Norfolk Fire Service have outlined a series of priorities for the town following concerns from local people.

Three targets for the next three months were agreed following a meeting of the Safer Thetford Action Group (STAG).

They are anti-social driving of motorcycles and quads on the Abbey Estate, alcohol related anti-social behaviour and intimidation in the vicinity of the Church of the Nazarene on Croxton Road and also alcohol related anti-social behaviour on the Cloverfields Estate, concentrating on Spindle Drive, Jasmine Close and Woodruff Road.

The meeting also heard about progress on the priorities in Thetford over the past 12 weeks.

The safer neighbourhood team (SNT) has conducted a street survey in the Castle Street and Castle Lane area and carried out regular high visibility patrols.

Young people who were committing anti-social behaviour in the vicinity were taken home by police officers and parents were informed about their child's inappropriate behaviour.

The SNT has carried out patrols to target drug related litter on Edinburgh Way and Durham Way on the Abbey Estate. The Matthew Project has been educating known drug users about the misuse of substances and designed a drug litter leaflet.

Work has been going on to formulate and action a plan to engage with young people on the Redcastle Estate. Confirmation is being sought on the future of Redcastle Community Centre. Summer holiday events will be planned shortly which will include programmed activities for young people across Thetford. Police conducted regular high visibility patrols in the area and offending youngsters were dealt with by the neighbourhood policing team.
