The chairman of the South West Norfolk Conservative Association has given his backing to a candidate embroiled in controversy following her affair with a Tory MP.
David Hills, chairman of the South West Norfolk Conservative Association, broke his silence about Elizabeth Truss, who has been at the centre of a row since details of her affair with MP Mark Field emerged.
Mr Hills recently returned to Norfolk after a three-week holiday to find the association mired in an internal argument about whether Miss Truss should stand as the next general election candidate.
In a statement he said he would continue to support her as the candidate, but the special general meeting to vote on Miss Truss' candidacy will still take place next Monday.
