Traditional Plough Monday celebrations took place in a west Norfolk village on Monday.
The events in Northwold, near Thetford, began during the day with a performance of a Plough Play at The Norman C of E Primary School by the Northwold Mummers, during which youngsters learnt about the agricultural significance of Plough Monday.
During the evening, a procession left The Crown pub in the village ahead of a blessing of the plough at St Andrew’s church, followed with dancing by St Andrew’s Mummers, King’s Morris and Misfits Molly.
Plough Monday is the name given to the first Monday after Twelfth Night as this day marked the resumption of agricultural work after Christmas festivities.
In some areas, it was common for farm labourers to tour villages with their plough and it was also common for church ceremonies involving blessings.
