An annual birthday celebration has raised more than £200 for charity.

Gez and Rosy Chetal took over Thetford’s Thomas Paine Hotel, believed to be the birth place of the celebrated free thinker, in May 2013.

Each year they have hold an Indian birthday celebratory evening which raises money for charity.

This year the event raised £245 for St Nicholas Hospice Care.

Mr Chetal, the executive director of Trust-House Leisure, said: “We have come a long way and I want to thank all the local people who have supported us.

“Our annual function has now become a regular feature with the Indian food cooked by Rosy and our chef every year. Good home-cooking with entertainment means it has become a huge success and this year we have had the most bumped attendance with over 90 guests.”

Events at the hotel have raised £1,745 for charities with the hotel’s target set at £2,000.
