Once home to a maharaja, a country estate in Norfolk welcomed a very different kind of royalty this weekend.

Covered in their own version of crown jewels, the cast of The Only Way is Essex descended on Hockwold Hall, near Brandon, to film a Halloween special of the hit ITVBe series.

The show’s very own baroness, Gemma Collins, was one of the most high profile cast members at the shoot.

Known to her fans as ‘The GC’, she donned a glittery, spider-themed costume complete with a bejewelled black robe.

Other stars in the county included Lauren Pope, James ‘Diags’ Bennewit, and Amber Turner.

In a video posted on Instagram, Miss Turner said: “So TOWIE have got to stay in this hotel, I bet it’s like haunted. Look at my room, I bet this room is haunted, how scary.”

Lime Pictures, who produce the constructed reality show, had looked at a number of locations for the special episode before deciding on Hockwold Hall.

A spokesperson for the venue said: “We are excited that The Only Way is Essex team selected Hockwold Hall.

“The production team informed us that the Halloween episode of TOWIE normally receives the highest viewing figures of the series.

“It has been an exciting time at the hall this past weekend, including some unexpected twists.”

The hall, which dates back to the 15th century, was the former royal residence of Prince Victor Duleep Singh, godson to Queen Victoria.

It is believed the Queen sometimes used the hall as a resting place en route to Sandringham.

The spokesperson added: “Hosting a TV production is a new milestone for our team, as this is the first to film with us since opening last year.

“We look forward to hosting more productions in the future.”

The Only Way is Essex first aired in 2010 and is currently in its 21st series. It follows the lives of a group of people living in the Brentwood area of the county and regularly attracts more than one million viewers.

The Bafta award winning show has created breakout stars including Mark Wright and Joey Essex.
